Volunteering in the Galapagos

In June, I flew to the Galapagos for two weeks of adventure. The first week, I volunteered on a nature reserve on the island of San Cristobal. The second week, I went island hopping with Vince. Today I'm writing about my time volunteering on the Jatun Sacha reserve.

I spent the week learning about conservation efforts on the islands. Invasive species, mostly introduced via cargo planes and ships bringing supplies to the islands, have dangerously crowded out some of the Galapagos' most treasured and rare species. Blackberry bushes are the worst offender since they spread so quickly.

Engaged: John & Katherine!

I had the pleasure of photographing John & Katherine's official engagement photos a few weeks ago! I had previously shot John & Katherine's save-the-date photos, and I was so excited to take the two of them out again for another fun afternoon. John & Katherine opted to have their photos taken at two Kansas City landmarks: Loose Park and the National WWI Memorial. This gave us a nice mix of lush, natural settings and architectural beauty, a perfect balance!

Sunday Snapshot: Kill Devil Hills

Last weekend, my forever friends and I celebrated our 10 year high school reunion by coming together in the Outer Banks for a weekend of sun, kayaks, laughter, and pure joy. Only two of us live full time in the same city, and we span two time zones, so this was an exceptionally special treat to get to see almost everyone for an entire weekend!

It's easy to forget how much I miss these girls - until I get to see them again. We had to commemorate the weekend with an impromptu photo session on the beach! Thank goodness for 10-second timers on cameras :) I spent the entire photo shoot running between the camera and the group!
