... but I did go to the Kansas City Zoo (@kansascityzoo) this weekend! In fact, I am now a Friend of the Zoo! Though, I prefer to be called a FOTZ. I'm making jackets. Sadly, my FOTZ status does not buy me a discount to Jazoo, but I did only pay $29 for an "Individual Plus" membership. If you live in Jackson or Clay County, you get a discount on your FOTZ membership because you pay a Zoo tax! I say it's a win-win. If I take my individual self, plus one other person, three times to the zoo this year, I'll have paid for my membership! Plus, the main area of the zoo has free WiFi. If I'm not at work some Friday but still answering work email, assume I'm basking in the sun at the zoo with my laptop...
This flamingo was doing a little ballet.
These flamingos were bashful.
Hello giant elephant! I loved watching them eat with their tusks. It's so cool how dextrous they are.
Would you look at that: there are "tons more animals" at the zoo. I'm thoroughly surprised.
Ah! I blinked and the tram disappeared! I must be camouflaged in the African grasses!
This giraffe was not camouflaged. He posed with us.
It's crazy how wrinkly these guys are. You'd think that hot weather would make them want to have a little less excess baggage sagging on their bones, but maybe it helps them in some way.
One of the few tropical birds that was out on Saturday. I guess it's still a bit too cold for most of them but these guys weren't shy!
In fact, they were quite cozy with each other.
The exotic Cardinalis cardinalis. You don't see these very often.
The less-rare Stubbornus vincentus. Not feeling too photogenic today, despite wanting to visit the giraffe. Apparently he wanted to visit it, he just didn't want a pixelated memory of his encounter with said giraffe.
All in all, it was a very nice day at the zoo! I'm excited to make many more visits, and I'll probably make more posts with more photos and tips for a successful zoo visit.
