I believe this was the fifth year that Giggle has taken place, but this was the first one that I was actually able to attend. I served as Marketing Co-Chair and had an absolute blast working with Co-Chair Jessica Vaughn and my team to design the logos and promotional images. Stephanie Brantman, our graphic designer did the star work here.
The playbook! I loved our 2013 "theme": Get ready to Giggle.
There I am! I can't at all claim that I had any hand in designing the logos, but I did approve them. (That counts for something, right?)
The show opened with Lonnie McFadden's amazing and peppy jazz music (including a little tap dancing!), followed by emcee Missy Koontz.
The main event was The Second City touring company, joined by Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde! This group Was. Absolutely. Phenomenal. They were completely hilarious. The show consisted of a mix of sketch comedy and improv. It was close, but I'd say that I liked the improv slightly better than the sketch comedy, mostly because I was so impressed by how quick these fantastic comedians (Kellen Alexander, Rachel LaForce, Kate Lambert, Chris Redd, Daniel Strauss) were on their feet.
The Midland looked great for the show! The VIP party took place up on the top floor:
The following photos are really blurry, so bear with me...
In one improv act, Jason and Olivia were in a bar together. Jason was hitting on bartender Olivia. At random times they had to pull pieces of paper off the floor with phrases suggested from the audience and incorporate them into their act. At one point, Olivia read, "Isn't this ironic?" I thought that was hilarious because Jason was trying to pick up his fiance.
I don't think she was entirely impressed with creepy, stalking improv Jason.
Fake improv shot.
Jason came out and helped with the one auction item. It was literally a once-in-a-lifetime auction prize:
Airfare to NYC for two
Dinner for two a two prime restaurants in the city
I wanted to win this auction soooo sooooo badly. I even saved my pennies. But it went for $15,000. Guess I should've saved more pennies...
At the end of the show, the event's co-chairs presented the company with Baldwin hats - KC's most up and coming designer!
Thanks for a wonderful show! I can't WAIT to begin work on next year's event.
