Oh Amber & Matt :) What can I say about these two that isn’t glowing and exceptional? They really are a wonderful, supportive, loving, and (really) caring couple.
Amber & Matt first met online after Amber moved to Oklahoma four years ago. Their first date was on January 1 that year, at the only (pizza) restaurant open in town! On their second date, Matt decided to take matters into his own hands by cooking a meal for Amber. He literally brought everything he needed over to Amber’s home to make sure the meal was perfect! This second date is both Amber & Matt’s favorite date they’ve had, so obviously Matt’s organized plan paid off!
We scheduled Amber & Matt’s engagement session during Easter weekend since they would be in town visiting Amber’s family. We opted for a mix of classic Kansas City and romantic spring florals for their backdrops. The two best places in the city for these scenes? The Nelson-Atkins Museum and Loose Park of course!
I absolutely LOVED Amber & Matt’s outfit choices for their session. When Amber walked up to me at Loose Park in her red jumpsuit I literally gasped! These two are not afraid of color (which I LOVE) and they mastered coordinating their outfits. Maybe Amber will give me tips on how to style my closet? (Hey, a girl can dream.)
Check out my favorite images from Amber & Matt’s engagement session (and there are a bunch of them!) and read more behind the scenes below!
Amber’s hand placement (below) is a common instruction I give brides. It helps highlight their engagement ring and draws the viewer’s eye to their love. I’ve always struggled with describing this to brides, though. Cup his ear? Split his ear with your thumb and hand? Awkward.
Until now :) I was stumbling through this description when Matt said, “You mean ‘frame the ear’?” A thousand camera angels suddenly erupted above us! I’m totally stealing that descriptor from now on. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make portrait sessions extra amazing.
Matt told me that if I got a photo of Amber’s ring on a red bud that I’d have one happy bride on my hands.
Challenge accepted :)
Amber’s jumpsuit really is gasp-worthy, am I right?
This lighting, that jumpsuit, Matt dressed to the nines. It was a good evening :)
Loose Park’s rose garden is iconic for a reason. The roses weren’t in bloom just yet, but the surrounding flowers were looking their absolute best for us!
Matt was kind enough to hold the end of this willow branch so I could take a photo of Amber’s gorgeous ring on it! There are just a few willow tress at Loose Park, but each of them seem to be perfectly placed for the perfect golden hour lighting. I’m sure that’s what the planters had in mind decades ago…
Usually the ponds at Loose Park are too stirred up by ducks and geese to allow for still reflections in the water. This evening was the most still I’ve ever seen the pond and we had to take advantage of it!
Congratulations to Amber & Matt!
I am beyond excited for your wedding this fall. You’re truly hitting the BEST seasons to photograph in KC!
