Meet our newest graduate, Erich!
This gentleman is graduating from Olathe Northwest HS and headed off to BU in the fall. He’ll be playing baseball there, which is absolutely incredible! I don’t know many high school grads who actually get to pursue their athletic dreams at university.
When I first chatted with Erich and his dad to plan Erich’s senior session, I could tell right away how important baseball is to his life. My first clue was the difficulty we had squeezing in a phone call in between games and practices and drives to Lawrence and back! That is some admirable commitment and I was happy to find a time that fit their insanely busy schedules.
My next clue was that Erich wanted to take some of his photos at his team’s baseball field, but he didn’t want them to look too forced or costume-y. I completely agreed with him and advised him to wear normal clothes, but bring a few “props” to reference his passion for the game without being too overt. The combination of polished and athletic worked beautifully, and I love the images we achieved both on the field and around it!

At the beginning of our session, I confessed to Erich that I know very little about baseball. Like, next to nothing. So if I said something stupid I wanted him to let me know and offer me some grace. He replied, "Well in that case, you should know it's called 'home plate' not 'home base'." Whoops.
The lighting was just too good under the bleachers to resist, don’t you agree?
For our next stop, we drove to the nearby Cedar Creek neighborhood to explore their gorgeous grounds. We arrived right at the beginning of golden hour, and I am over the moon in love with the lighting we had to play with!
Fun Fact: Erich has a family photo with his siblings on this very knoll! In the original image he’s being held by his older siblings while he cries. I asked him if he wanted to recreate everything about the image but for some reason he declined?
Best of luck this summer and during your freshman year!
