Meet the Gattis clan! This tight-knit family is a one-of-a-kind power house of brains, beauty, loyalty, and fun. And did I mention they’re a joy to photograph?
I first met Melissa when we both attended college at the University of Nebraska. Outside of her college days, Melissa has always lived in her hometown of Greeley, CO, which is about an hour north of Denver. Melissa’s parents and brother and sister-in-law (along with their new baby Reid!) all live in Greeley as well.
At the end of March, Vince and I paid a visit to the Gattis clan. The visit was partially for selfish reasons, I’ll admit. Altruistically, I wanted to see Melissa (I haven’t seen her in years) and her family again, and I wanted to see her hometown that I’ve heard so much about. Selfishly, I wanted to taste their beer :) See, the Gattis family is the part owner of WeldWerks Brewing Co., a deliciously innovative brewery in Greeley. They don’t sell WeldWerks in Kansas City (YET, hint hint) so we had to come to it.
After a weekend of touring Greeley and sampling delicious beverages, we capped off our visit with this wonderful family session in the heart of the downtown district! Exploring the city’s beautiful architecture and landmarks was the perfect backdrop for this hometown crew, and I love the memories we created.
I absolutely love getting to photograph in new-to-me spaces. It recharges my creativity and forces me to think outside of the box as I search out new backdrops for photos. These photos were taken at high noon on a super sunny and (thankfully!) warm day, but you’d never know it!
